Company

Boring infrastructure, on purpose.

Nodegrid was founded in 2019 by three SREs who were tired of being paged for other people’s gateways. We build the dull, load-bearing kind of software — and we like it that way.

The first version ran on nine servers in a Kreuzberg basement and served exactly one customer: us. Word spread the way infrastructure word spreads — one postmortem at a time. We took no venture capital, reached profitability in 2022, and still publish every incident report, including the embarrassing ones.

Today 19 engineers run 34 points of presence from Berlin. Everyone who ships carries the pager for what they shipped. There is no sales floor; the person answering your ticket deployed the fix for the last one.

The runbook

Four rules. They fit on a terminal, which is where we keep them.

01

No magic

Config is a file in your repo, reviewed like code. If a behavior cannot be diffed, we do not ship it.

02

The author is on call

Nothing teaches restraint like being woken by your own deploy. Ownership is not a diagram; it is a pager.

03

Postmortems are public

Every incident over five minutes gets a public write-up within 72 hours. Trust is built in the margins of a bad day.

04

Latency is a budget

Every feature ships with a millisecond budget. Blow the budget, lose the feature — no negotiation, even when it is ours.
