The Story
A hotel that began as a wrong turn in the dark.
Two friends lost the road to Hegra one night in 2018, slept in the open with the car doors flung wide, and woke up certain the desert deserved a warmer welcome than a locked gate.
Sara had grown up in AlUla and thought she knew every wadi; Faisal was a hotelier who had spent a decade making city lobbies feel like anywhere. That night in the sand, neither could stop talking about the same idea — a place small enough to remember your name, built into the rock rather than dropped on top of it.
It took three years, a dozen stonemasons from the old town, and a stubborn refusal to add a single room beyond twenty-two. Zerzura opened in 2021 with hand-cut walls, palms that were already standing, and a rule that the sky is never to be washed out by a floodlight.
We are still family-run. Sara reads every arrival note; Faisal still argues about the coffee. The valley does the rest of the work, and it has never once let us down.
